I would like to reach out to you and offer some moral support to you. About 2 years ago I was in the same sort of accent you were in. This lady panicked as she started to make a left turn and just hit the brakes. I saw her but there was just nothing I could do. I slammed my brakes and even swerved to my right to avoid her as much as possible but BAAAMMM! I hit her. I was wearing my seatbelt and my airbag deployed but luckily it did not hit my face, just my left arm. The whole inside of my arm was black and purple within 5 minutes. Anyway, the lady had insurance and also admitted fault at the scene. Her insurance paid for my medical bills and since my car was totaled, they cut me check for the value of my car as well.
The very next day I had some slight soreness in my back which got worse with each passing day. I went to the chiropractor and ended up having a soft tissue back injury and a rib jarred out of place which was pressing on a nerve in my back. I had a dull but really painful burning feeling in my upper/middle right side of my back near what I call my ‘wing’ bone (the shoulder bone I guess). After a few months of treatment, I was as back to normal as I could get.
I completely agree with you that driving in L.A. is nothing but a HUGE liability. It costs so much money just to have your own independent transportation here, it’s ridiculous! Check into using your uninsured motorists insurance to cover your medical bills/car expenses. You just might be able to get around paying your huge deductable.
I hope you heal up and get back to your old self again soon!
